Struggling to Tell If Your Carrier Is On Right?

babywearing for caregivers Jan 01, 2026

Ever feel like babywearing is one big guessing game? You get the carrier on, tighten the straps, do your best to follow the steps…and still wonder, Is this right?

That’s where mirrors (or your phone camera!) come in. Sometimes, all you need is a different perspective.

When you’re wearing your baby, it’s hard to see what’s happening on your back, your shoulder, or with baby’s legs and back…especially if you're trying a new carry or adjusting on the fly.

But a quick glance in a mirror or window reflection, or flipping your phone to selfie mode, can give you instant visual feedback.

You might notice a twist you missed, a slack spot to tighten, or (more often than not) that everything looks better than you thought.

Using a mirror also helps train your brain. The more you see what “right” looks like, the faster your body learns to recognize that feeling without needing to check.

It builds muscle memory, which is what eventually makes babywearing feel effortless.

This simple tool also builds confidence. And if you’d like a trained eye to take a look and offer feedback, you're not alone; many caregivers do!
