What is The Babywearing Weekend?
The Babywearing Weekend is a three-day, in-person professional immersion designed primarily for babywearing educators - with HELD as the interdisciplinary anchor day.

Friday: Educator-only Carrier Lab (deep, hands-on exploration)
Saturday: HELD (educators + allied clinicians learning together through real cases)
Sunday: Educator Master Class with Joanna (integration + special topics)

The whole point is repetition → fluency: exploring carriers and real-life use cases over multiple days and contexts so you leave more confident, more skilled, and more connected.

How is this different from HELD?
Think of it this way:
HELD is one day.
It’s interdisciplinary: educators learn alongside PT/OT, IBCLCs, doulas, chiropractors, nurses, and other perinatal professionals. It’s case-based and hands-on, focused on how carrying can be preventative and therapeutic for common challenges families face.
The Babywearing Weekend is the bigger container.
It wraps around HELD with educator-only time on Friday and Sunday so educators can build deeper carrier fluency, feel prepared for the interdisciplinary work on Saturday, and then integrate that learning.

Is this only for CBWS grads?
No. You do not need to be a CBWS graduate to attend.
If you’re a babywearing educator, consultant, volunteer, or group leader (or actively building toward that role) and you care about doing this work well, you belong here.

I’m a newer educator…can I attend?
Yes, and newer educators will get a lot out of it!
This weekend gives you:

  • protected space to explore without pressure
  • hands-on repetition with carriers and real-life scenarios
  • shared language you can borrow until it becomes your own
  • community with educators who want you to grow

You don’t need to already know everything. You just need curiosity and a willingness to learn.

I’m a veteran educator…will I learn anything?
This is one of the most common questions - and the answer is yes, just not always in the way you expect.
Veteran educators have shared they left with:
sharper and more specific teaching practices
deeper carrier nuance from repeated, rapid side-by-side comparison of the carrier and on multiple bodies
expanded clinical language and understanding for what they’ve felt intuitively for years
more confidence in seeking referral and collaboration pathways
Being surprised to see new paths before them than they previously imagined
Also, seasoned educators tend to be surprised by how much they enjoy learning in a space that feels playful, curious, and competent without being performative.

Can I attend if I don’t live in the area?
Yes. Many attendees travel.
This weekend is designed to be worth the trip. The value lies in what happens when you’re in a room where you can test, compare, troubleshoot, and learn through bodies in real time. And while building local referral networks is part of the mission, attending from outside the area will strengthen your language and confidence to build those pathways in your home community, as well.

Can I attend just one day?
It depends on your role.
Allied professionals will attend Saturday (HELD) only.
Babywearing educators can attend the full weekend (recommended) or choose what fits their schedule, but the full arc is where the fluency and integration really happen.
If you’re on the fence, ask yourself: are you looking for a single inspiring day, or are you looking to change how you teach and how you serve long-term? The weekend is built for the second one.

What if I’m not comfortable “teaching” in front of clinicians?
You won’t be put on the spot to perform.
This isn’t a conference. It’s a collaborative lab. Educators contribute the way educators do: noticing, troubleshooting, trying things, offering cues, asking great questions, and translating into real-life language.
If anything, most educators leave feeling more respected and more confident, because clinicians are there to learn with you, not judge you.

What kinds of carriers will we explore?
A curated selection of babywearing-first brands.
This isn’t about seeing every carrier on the market. It’s about getting repeated, meaningful exposure so you build real fluency without having to buy carrier after carrier just to learn. Brands can’t buy their way into this room - we extend invitations to companies that are primarily focused on babywearing (not general baby products) and that have demonstrated their support of babywearing education. These are the brands that babywearing educators, like you, go to time and time again.

Is this a sales event or a trade show?
No.
There are no booths, no sales floor, and no paid speaking slots. Carrier exploration is education-centered, guided by educators’ needs, and addresses real struggles experienced by baby/caregiver dyads from a place of professional integrity.

What should I bring?
For educators:

  • a weighted doll (dressed + name tag)
  • comfortable clothes/shoes you can move in
  • your questions (the ones that don’t fit into a quick Instagram answer)
  • Note-taking supplies and anything else you need to support your learning

Are there hotel-sharing/carpooling options?
Yes. Through our private WhatsApp community, we’ll provide space for attendees to connect about hotel shares, carpools, and other travel-friendly options (as available per location). You will receive this info after registration, so you can opt in if you want.

Will there be CE credit?
In many cases, yes: this event can qualify for continuing education credit, depending on your licensing/certifying organization and its rules for self-submitted or external training.
We’re happy to support you by providing whatever documentation your organization requires (for example: certificate of attendance, session titles and learning objectives, presenter/facilitator info, agenda with contact hours, etc.). If you plan to submit for CEUs, just let us know, and we’ll make sure you have what you need.

What if I’m a parent/caregiver, not a professional?
The Babywearing Weekend is designed for professionals. Some caregivers may participate in HELD as invited models, but general registration is open only to educators and allied professionals.
If you’ve been craving professional learning that actually matches the reality of the work…this is your invitation.

The Babywearing Weekend is designed to help you become the kind of educator who can walk with families through complexity with calm confidence…and then bring that confidence back into your community, so support doesn’t stop when the appointment ends.
