Dress for Success (Yeah, really)
Jan 08, 2026
When you’re heading out with your baby in the carrier, what you both wear might not seem like a big deal…but it can make all the difference.
One of the easiest ways to make babywearing more comfortable is to skip the bulky layers.
Puffy coats, thick sweaters, or snowsuits can make it harder to get a snug, supportive fit, which means the carrier might not feel secure, and you or your baby might end up feeling fussy before you even get out the door.
Instead, dress in thin, breathable layers.
For your baby, think light cotton PJs or a soft bamboo onesie.
For you, something fitted and stretchy often works well.
The carrier adds an extra layer of warmth all on its own, so you often need less than you think.
This tip is especially helpful in colder months.
You can always add warmth over the carrier with a roomy jacket, a carrier cover, or a blanket tucked around baby’s legs. That way, both of you stay cozy and safely positioned.
Fewer bulky layers = easier adjustments and clearer visibility of your baby’s airway and positioning. Safety and comfort go hand in hand.
So before you grab your carrier, take a second to check what you’re both wearing. A little wardrobe strategy can make your whole babywearing experience smoother, safer, and way more enjoyable.
